Learning about making bread
The Little Red hen made delicious bread in the story. We decided to look closely at how bread is made. The
children followed the bread making process in the story first.
Then they sequenced the cards to show the basic steps of bread making.
We made some jam sandwiches in class.
Finally we baked the cinnamon buns. The children were very excited and the classroom was filled with delicious smell of baked buns. It really felt like the Little Red Hen story came alive!
The children were curious about cinnamon and wanted to smell it.
The children were curious about cinnamon and wanted to smell it.
They looked at how to form the buns first. Everybody payed really good attention! And again some smelling was going on. Isn't it great to see how the children try to use all their senses when they learn something new?
Then it was their turn to roll up the sleeves and go for it, make some buns just like the Little Red Hen!
It didn’t take long before the buns turned golden colour in the oven. We talked about how they must not touch the oven when it is on.
And, finally…here they are, freshly baked cinnamon buns! Ta-da! The children were given the buns after they cooled down of course.
It was great that ALL the children liked the buns! They also wanted to take some home to show their mums what kind of baking they had done during the day.
