Spring Project (in Progress)
Spring is here, the days are much warmer and it has been so incredibly beautiful outside! Trees are blossoming and flowers are everywhere. What a great opportunity to talk to the children about changes in seasons.
On Thursday, 28th March we went outside for a walk around school to see if we could find any signs of spring, especially flowers. It was a chilly and cloudy day and the children put on their coats and jackets.
They rushed to the boxes with the artificial flowers and were convinced they found the real ones!
They finally found the only one blossoming tree outside the school building. We talked about the colour and the size of the flowers.
Next time we went outside for a spring signs hunt was after our April holiday, on Thursday 11th April. The children noticed that it was sunnier and a little warmer. We noticed that the flowers on that tree grew much bigger.
Then we crossed the road and looked at some beautiful bushes covered in pink and yellow flowers.
Here is the song about spring that the children enjoyed singing.
After our last short holiday, on Thursday 2 May we went to look for the flowers again. There were plenty of them around this time. The children really liked the dandelions and even tried to blow some of them. We noticed that the weather got much warmer and it was nice and sunny.
Trip to Meijiang Park, 7th May 2013
Our next spring signs trip was to the Meijiangnan Park nearby our school. On Tuesday 7 May we went to search for the blossoming trees and flowers of many different colours. We also hoped to see some butterflies, bees and birds. We planned to do some drawings but the children were too excited to stay in one place, so we decided to leave it until we come back to the classroom.
Look, there is a butterfly! The children ran immediately to have a look.
More flowers and further walk in the park.
The children enjoyed playing hide and seek.
Can you see who is hiding behind the bush?
The children were really interested in looking at all sorts of insects.
We found a nice place by the lake for our snack time.
A bit more walking along the park.
Here are the Nursery spring sign hunters!
Here is our spring blossom tree art work. The children painted a tree in water colour first.
Then they finger painted the flowers, added some paper grass, sun and clouds.
And here are our spring blossom trees!
