Chinese Fans - Term 2, Week 4
The children looked at the traditional Chinese story of the evil monster Nian that was scared off by the red posters and lanterns hung outside the people's houses. We decided to display some red colour decorations outside our classroom door in accordance with the wide spread Chinese tradition.
Ms. Tessa came up with the idea of original red fans with the children's names attached to them. She quickly wrote some Chinese characters on the red paper that the students traced over in black pen. Then they folded the paper in a fan shape with some help. Children were very excited to trace over their own names too. Once the fans were displayed just outside our classroom, everybody was calm that the Nian would not come in under any circumstances.
