Sorting: hard and soft - Term 2, Week 3
In 'The Three Bears' story that we read during this week Goldilocks tried to lie down on Papa Bear's bed, but it was too hard. Mama Bear's bed was too soft and the Baby Bear's bed was just right. We decided to look at a variety of objects that we tried to sort into two categories: hard and soft. Children had a go at taking one object at a time from a bag and passing it around a circle for everybody to touch and decide which box would that object go to - hard or soft.
There were plenty of objects to check, like a ball, a cube, some soft and some plastic toys, etc. Surprisingly it took the children a lot of thinking to do the sorting.
The next step was to sort some pictures by pasting them into the right columns: hard and soft. We had to get the children look at the objects sorted previously again to make them understand the concept.
