Melting Snowman - Term 2, Week 5
On one of the many snowy days this term we decided to look at the process of the snow changing into water. We brought some snow into our classroom in a ziplock bag and made a snowman inside it using some buttons and a carrot nose made out of card. Then we attached the bag to the window and watched what was happening to the snow over the next hour.
The children were looking closely at the changes and the snowman eventually melted of course...
When the snow melted, we placed it lower so that the children could explore it by touching. It was really interesting to see how long time some of them spent looking at the bag, pushing the buttons inside up and down by squeezing the bag.
Jenny spent most of her after lunch break playing with the bag and making the buttons float and sink. It was amazing to see how such simple activity could grab the children's attention for such long time...
