Sound /A/ - Week 5
/A/ is for 'apple'
In Literacy we started learning sounds beginning from sound /a/ as in ‘apple’. We looked at some more words beginning with sound ‘a’, e.g. ‘alligator’, ‘ant’, ‘airplane’, ‘angel’.
There were some follow up activities aiming to remember how to write and pronounce sound /a/.
Can all the children read and write sound /a/ now? If it only was that easy! Not really, not many of them, but it’s only the first step towards big learning how to read. How can parents help to reinforce sound learning at home? Please read more here…

What colour apples do you like best?
We tasted apples of 3 colours and made a graph showing which colour apples we liked the most.
Making 'A' out of dough
We started by tracing 'A' on the flour. Then we made a dough and tried to make letter 'A' which wasn't so easy!
How many seeds in an apple?
We estimated the number of seeds in apples during Maths and checked it by counting.
Apple art
In Art the students pasted the apple cutouts of 3 colours on blue paper and the seeds in the middle. Then they had fun painting a large apple tree and sponge printing red apples on card. See the photo of our final work below.
