Here is just a quick note to wish everybody a great holiday! I am going back to Moscow to visit my family, so I probably won't be able to update the site very soon. Don't worry though, the news about Week 4 will come your way. Hope the children come back well rested and ready for more exciting learning in the Nursery class.

This week Ms. Tessa taught the children the names of some animals. I certainly enjoyed the lesson as much as the children did. There were books, puppets, masks and wooden pictures involved. The children were asked to go on a picture and a puppet hunt around the classroom. There was so much excitement and interest among the students, everybody was absolutely involved! I have to say that is not always easy to achieve in the Nursery class. What a great language lesson, Ms.Tessa! The favourite counting song this week was ‘5 Little Monkeys”. We did lots of counting on and back from 1 to 5. The children also made lovely necklaces out of small wooden beads. They had to sort the beads according to their shapes and colours before they started. An excellent fine motor developing activity that needs lots of hand and eye coordination. This week we experimented with lots of different art activities. The children tried bottle cork printing and yogurt painting. They also had fun going outside the classroom for water painting and drawing with chalks on the pavement. Have a look at the photos and try to answer the question: which one of these activities the children enjoyed the most? You can show your answer by voting on the following poll and I will reveal the answer after next week. Remember you can only choose one answer. Let's see how well you know your children :=) The main topic of the week was Feelings. Children were invited to think about positive and negative feelings that we experience throughout the day. We talked about what makes us happy, sad, angry and scared. A book called ‘Sometimes I Bombaloo’ by Rachel Vail helped the children learn how to deal with the negative feelings when you are not happy with your younger brother or sister. The students tried to show different feelings by looking at the mirror. The good news is none of the kids could master any other face expressions except for ‘happy’ or ‘silly’. Just trying to make a sad or an angry face made them laugh and put everybody into a happy mood! We also made a ‘happy’ and’ sad’ posters by cutting out the pictures from magazines. Thank you to all the parents who managed to come to school for the open morning last week. Although it was a bit hectic with the children crying because of mums leaving at the end of our activities (reminded me of the first day at school!), I am sure everybody would agree that it was a successful event. I hope you enjoyed working with your child on making picture frames, they look absolutely stunning! It was amazing to see what 3 year old children could create with 'a little' help of their mums in a matter of 20 minutes! Well done to you all! I am sure the children will be happy to see those frames with the pictures of their dear mums on our classroom display. If you are wondering why there were no updates on the site about Week 3, the answer is simple - there was NO INTERNET connection in my house over the weekend! It felt like the world had stopped running, what do you do? The internet came back on on Monday but I will need time to upload the photos, etc, so I will inform you when it is ready through the School Diary. Hope we all have a great week, the last one before the October holiday! Just a quick note to say that I am looking forward to seeing the parents at school on Wednesday, 19th September for the primary school open morning. I hope you are getting ready to join in with our lessons!
This week Ms. Tessa taught the children a cute little song that was followed by the learning vocabulary related to friendship. She also read a story about Sleeping Beauty in Chinese and kids were following the story with an amazing interest! |
