On Monday was Won Jong's birthday. Thank you to Won Jong's Mum for sending a cake to school. We all sang the Happy Birthday song to Won Jong at snack time. The children enjoyed the cake and had a good time!

By now most of the children can recognise some or many letters of the alphabet and recall their sounds. They now get interested in more activities involving print. On one of the afternoons this week we played the Alphabet Bingo game that the children enjoyed very much.
The children loved this humorous song about sea creatures and asked to play it again and again! Watch and listen to it here.
This week we read two famous Rainbow Fish stories by Marcus Pfister. These books gave us an opportunity to talk about friendships, sharing and being nice to each other. These are always relevant and important topics to discuss in Nursery class. Two story videos will be added soon.
Last week we started the topic of Water in Nursery. The children looked at the capacity of different containers, at the things that float and sink, at using water for washing up and of course at making soap bubbles! All of the above activities created lots of excitement in our classroom. It's amazing to see how the children never get tired of water related activities and always ask for more! Last week the children enjoyed the topic of Dinosaurs. They learned that dinosaurs lived long time ago. Most of them were huge but there were some small dinosaurs too. Some of them ate plants and some of them ate other animals. All of them laid eggs. The book called 'I'm a T-Rex' by Dennis Shealy helped us to find out more things about dinosaurs. In Art the children made some lovely dinosaur suncatchers that made our classroom look more cheerful. On one of the hot mornings the children went outside to do some water painting. This simple activity did not lead to producing a masterpiece in the end but it was really enjoyed by the children. It was good learning experience too. The children were excited about the changes in colour in everything they touched by their wet paintbrushes and also by the fact that the water evaporated so quick.
The story of the week was Elmer the Elephant by David McKee. The children liked the cheerful colourful elephant that made all the other elephants laugh. They were surprised that Elmer tried to paint himself into grey colour, so that he looked like other elephants, but they were happy to find out that in the end Elmer was back to his bright colourful patchwork look. The children also enjoyed some art and craft related to the story as well as the ICT activity. |
