This week was the last one in the Nursery class for our dear Ms. Tessa. She will continue her work at Rego School in Year 6 beginning from Monday. Ms. Tessa has been immensely helpful and caring with the Nursery children. We will certainly miss her but we wish her all the best in her new position. On Friday we had a Good Bye cake and gave Ms. Tessa a Thank You card from the Nursery class and all the Foundation teachers. Over the next week the Nursery students will be looking at the Mimibeasts project. This will be following their lead as the children are fascinated by the insects and use every opportunity to find and look at them closely during playtimes. They are going to learn the names of the different insects, look at their features, count the number of their legs and look at how they move. Last week the children went for their first insect hunt in the playground. More photos will be published with time. On Tuesday 14th May we had one of our lessons outside in the playground. We talked about how to play in the sandpit safely, so that nobody gets hurt. The children all agreed that throwing the sand into the air was dangerous as it might go into somebody else's eyes. They were shown how to handle the sandpit toys safely.
The children enjoyed reading The Very Hungry Caterpillar story by Eric Carle. This book provides lots of learning opportunities. We revised the names of the days of the week, healthy and unhealthy food and looked at the butterfly life cycle. There were lots of art and crft activities involved. Lots of photos will be added soon. The children learned two new counting songs. The songs help them to count to 10 and to 20. They have nice rythm and involve some actions and jumping. Any excuse to do some moving around is very welcomed in Nursery, so the songs became their favourites straight away! You can see the videos of the songs here.
Most of the children can count to 10 and recognise the numerals by now. This week they were asked to put the number flashcards in order. They were assisted with a number line and had a go at ordering the numbers from their memory too. See more photos here. After visiting Meijiang park the children created beautiful spring blossom tree art work using different media. See more pictures on the Spring project page. |
