It was so exciting to see the changes in our planted beans. One tiny shoot has grown and the roots are getting longer on all of the others in the soil. The children could see them though the clear plastic cup. They carefuly looked at their cups with the beans and soil and watered their beans. We wonder how many shoots will we see after the holiday?

After our busy morning with parents on Book Week Friday the children had their regular Maths lesson. They continued working on adding some numbers up to 5 and 10 using the interactive Maths games from the following site: http://www.iboard.co.uk/teacher/trisnursery(Click on the Maths folder and select the games called 'Snowman Addition' 'Release the Submarine' and 'Addition Stories')
Then they used the interlocking cubes to help them implement the addition sums and write the answers. Thank you to all the parents and grandparents for coming in to school on our final day of Book Week. It was lovely to see the children dressed up as book characters and congratulations to our muscular Super Man, Luis for winning in the fancy dress competition! I hope you enjoyed your time doing some art and craft activities related to our class story with your child. It was certainly a very special day for the children! All your beautiful work will be displayed in the classroom so come by to have a look after the holiday! See the photos here. On Thursday Ms. Hackett was busy with the secondary school Sports Day, so she was not able to do the Swimming lesson with Nursery and Reception students. So instead I decided to jump into the pool with the kids. They were really surprised to see me there and challenged my swimming abilities! It seemed they had fun in the pool and certainly did I! More photos to come. Today the children had a chance to role play the story and do a little bit of singing, chanting and acting. 'We're Going on a Bear Hunt' is a wonderful story that creates opportunities for learning in many different areas and having lots of fun! We are hoping the parents will enjoy our little show tomorrow during the open morning. Mr Thompson came to the Nursery class with three story books to read. The children listened to the stories called 'I Want My Hat Back' by Jon Klassen, 'There Was an Old Woman Who Swallowed a Spider' by Pam Adams and 'The Most Obedient Dog in the World' by Anita Jeram. All the books had some humour in them and were thoroughly enjoyed by the children. The last reading session with the secondary students went briliantly well. The Nursery children were accustomed to the newcomers in the classroom by now and really enjoyed their shared reading time. On Wednesday we planted the beans into soil! We put them into clear plastic cups hoping to see the growing roots later. Once the roots get stronger and the shoots come out, we will replant our beanstalks into plant pots. This little episode has created a lot of excitement in class. I think the children liked the sound of the word 'soil' too, they kept repeating it while they were working. See more photos soon! On Wednesday the children listened to two stories read by Ms. Maslene, Year 5 teacher. One of the stories was called The Paper Bag Princess by R. Munsch and the other one - Story of the Little Mole by Peter Holzwarth. Another exciting moment of story time in Nursery class! More photos will be uploaded later. |
