Today we read the 'We're Going on a Beah Hunt' story again and concentrated on the story map. What did the family walk through before they found the bear? The children recalled the river, grass, mud, snowstorm, forest and the cave. We tried to say together the sounds from the book for each of the scenes. The children also continued with their door book cover decoration. They coloured in and drew some pretty flowers in oil pastels.

On Tuesday during the reading session after lunch Ms. Pierce, English P teacher, came to the Nursery class with a book. The children enjoyed the story called 'Pirate Pete and the Monster' by Susan Akass. It was great to have a new teacher reading a story, students listened very carefully. On Tuesday some more secondary students joined our class for reading. It was Year 13 and they only had boys in their class, really tall ones too. The Nursery children had to tilt their heads back to be be able to see those tall students. Some children again were a little intimidated at the beginning but it all turned out fine in the end. It is actually quite good fun, to read together with the older students! On Monday the children were introduced to the story by Michael Rosen "We're Going on a Bear Hunt". They enjoyed listening to this famous story and asked lots of questions about it. We are planning to decorate our classroom door as the story book cover, so today the students drew their selfportraits that we are going to put on the cover as the new characters in our version of the story. Our secondary Chemistry teacher Dr. Howe has organized a presentation at school called Expo Chem 2013. He was very kind to invite the Nursery students to look at the series of little experiments showing how some living and non-living objects glow in the dark. We looked at the lasers, glow sticks, UV lamps and even a glow stone. There was also some real money that fluoresced under special light. The children felt a little scared in the dark Science Lab first but they were okay soon afterwards. At the end Dr. Howe has shown the children some short videos about real jelly fish, corals and other sea creatures that glow in deep dark sea. Big thank you to Dr. Howe for having the Nursery class over at the Science Lab and trying to explain what it was all about in the simplest possible terms! More photos will be uploaded later. Our Monday started from the secondary students coming in to read some story books for the Nursery children for about 20 minutes. Needless to say the Nursery kids DID NOT want to share books with the strangers! But with a little ecouragement they felt more relaxed and quite interested in the new experience. After a short while everyone was engaged with their reading! It turned out to be great fun! In the afternoon Ms. Sterner (Year 3 teacher) came to the Nursery class to read a story called 'There Was a Woman Who Lived in a Shoe' which was another enjoyable expereince during our busy day. See the photos here. On 20th March the whole primary school went for a trip to the Polar Ocean World in Tangu. This trip added so much more learning to our topic on Animals. It was a good opportunity for the children to learn more about the polar animals. See the photos here. Beginning from 22nd April the whole school is going to enjoy lots of fun activities related to reading during Book Week. There will be many activities encouraging and promoting love for reading books. The secondary students will come and read books with the younger ones, teachers will read stories in different year groups. There will be a book swap day on Wednesday where the children will be able to swap their old books for the different ones from the other children. On Friday, 26th April all the students and the teachers will come to school dressed up as book characters. Primary school parents will be invited to watch our special assembly and join in the book related activities in their children’s classes. More information to follow! After trying out different ideas I decided to close the Blog page on our site. From now on all the information about recent and upcoming events will be posted here, on the Diary page. Hope this will make the site easier to navigate. Please leave your comments about recent changes on the site, recent events, etc. It’s always nice to hear my students’ parents and other readers’ feedback!
